Women In Business: 3 ways to keep your game up at work

As a Woman in Business who loves to be successful and strong, you know that there are all kinds of challenges for women to be taken seriously. As a manager in a multinational company who loves finance and a mother of 2 girls who loves to play and enjoy with my family, I found these two articles with useful insights that help us understand how we can get ahead of the game and keep on thriving.

Hira Ali wrote a great article on Forbes for Ellevate Network called "Why Women Are Natural born leaders". It talks about women’s natural talents for leadership and how to use them in our favor. The article explains how women are more collaborative and empathetic. These are characteristics of ideal leaders today, however; these traits taken to the extreme can also lead to a lack of confidence.

Nicole Lipkin wrote another Forbes article called "The Most Common Communication Mistakes Women Make" on how women include their feelings in communication in way that is not always assertive. The article explains that we sometimes use instruments of language that can make us appear unsure of what we’re saying or overly emotional.

Drawing on these two articles I wanted to summarize 3 main actions you can take in your day to day to stay competitive and growing in the workplace or as an entrepreneur.

Keep Positive - nobody wants to follow someone who feels she’s going down the drain. If you feel you’re getting into a downward spiral seek professional help. I’ve done it myself, there’s no shame in it.

Use Assertive Communication - speak up, propose, act; if you’re surrounded by men, even more so. Make it clear that you’re a lot more than a pretty face, don’t doubt, just go.

Stay confident - women have this super elevated concept of how they need to be; stop being so hard on yourself, one failure or mistake (or several of them) does not define you, shake off the self-doubt.

With these recommendations you can now start to build a more solid image as a woman who is in business to succeed, make an impact and make good money side by side with great men and women.
